ALASSIO

Alassio is a period drama series set in the eponymous town of Alassio, in the Italian Riviera, during Mussolini's authoritarian dictatorship.
The series' theme revolves around the notion that art is the strongest form of resistance against fascism.
Adelasia Pacetti is a rebellious, otherworldly teenager who refuses to salute Mussolini, jeopardizing her anti-fascist family. Hellbent on resisting the oppressive regime, she seeks mentorship from famous guests at her parents’ luxurious hotel.
As tensions rise, she navigates dangerous battles to protect her family and survive. Over the course of three 8-episode seasons, Adelasia begins forging her rebellious identity, thanks to the mentorship of her Hotel’s iconic guests, all of them historic British celebrities including Hitchcock, Isadora Duncan, Claude Monet, Italo Calvino and Charlie Chaplin.

Adelasia will fall in love. She will be betrayed. She will lose everything and still rise and become an artist. A witness to history. A Partisan fighter in the rebellion against fascism. A witness to history. Soon, every dance, every essay, every whispered conversation—becomes an act of resistance.
Inspired by real events, Alassio is a coming-of-age historical drama filled with magical realism, an exploration of the moment history breaks into the lives of ordinary people.
It’s a tale of how one young woman turns beauty, rage, and imagination into rebellion, and about how one Italian family maintained a community together in the face of Mussolini’s tyranny.

[The] tone is a great match for the material. It’s highly cinematic and does a fine job balancing the grave with the light. The choice of location was a masterstroke as we get to watch the rise of fascism in a sun-kissed locale that offers up a seemingly infinite amount of eye candy.
